In the poem Daddy emotion is showed strongly in this as when you first look at it looks like it is about a girl who has lost her dad and wants him back. This is showed when she tries to join him or in other words die so she can see him. Also she marries someone who looks like her dad to try and replace him to remember him. Emotion is also shown by repetition for example ‘you do not do, you do not do.’ This suggests she is saying to someone you are not enough compered.

This is a good start for a first look at the poem. Your response is thoughtful about the repetition of those words. What you need to do next is look for further examples of this emotion. Think about the references to the colour black, the references to her father’s Polish/German heritage – and her referring to herself as a jew in relation to that. Look for other references to angry words and violent actions, and think about the severity of referring to her father as hitler.
