plath- device’s

One of the languge device used is apostrophe, in poetry this menas talking to someone who is not there. in the poem this is shown in the last line of the poem where plath say “Daddy, Daddy you Ba****d im through” this suggests she has had hartred towards her father and has finally let it out. plath also uses methorphores when she says “a bag full of god” this suggests when she was a little girl he was the centre of her world.

the tamming of the sherw

When comparing the poems and the play both show strong feelings from women. In the taming of the shrew it is clear Kathrine can not be dominated in a very male society. In the first scene when we first see her speak it is not a lot this could suggest it is very male dominated. In the taming of kath is clearly someone who no one wants to marry and she does not want to marry. She is referd to as being married to hell and the devil. And to the possible husband she calls a fool. In the poems by Plath, the poem applicant is done in the form of an interveiw. First with a question to find out about the person. There is no responce this could show that there is only one possible answer. Then in the poem Daddy she uses the emotion of losing a loved one but turns it round to make him look like a bad person. For example calling him a vampire who has been stacked. She also then try’s to replace him by marrying a man who looks like him this could show how much she wants to be back with him.

the taming of the shrew- emotion

Much of what we know about Katherine initially comes from what other people say about her.         In Act I, for instance, we do not hear her speak much. Yet the view of Katherine is fairly well established. The characters in Shrew will also learn lessons about rushing to judgments. Right after Baptista announces that Kate must marry before Bianca may take suitors, Gremio colours our interpretation of the elder daughter by declaring “She’s too rough for me” (1.1.55). Later in the scene, Gremio reiterates his dislike for Kate, demeaning her as a “fiend of hell” (88) and offering that “though her father be very rich, any man is so very a fool to be married to hell” (124-126). He finishes off with the declaration that to marry Kate is worse than to “take her dowry with this condition: to be whipped at the high cross every morning” (132-134). Hortensio, too, is quick to add to the foray, calling Kate a devil (66) and claiming that she is not likely to get a husband unless she is “of gentler, milder mold” (60). Tranio, Lucentio’s servant, is perhaps the only man in this scene not to disparage Kate, diagnosing her as “stark mad or wonderful froward” (69). Kate, in her own defence, offers telling commentary on this. When looking more closely at what Kate actually says reveals she may not be as domineering as some characters would have us believe. For instance, the first lines we hear her speak are to her father, imploring him not to wed her to a fool (57-58). Although it is somewhat nervy for her to speak out against her father, the fact that she does speak out bout her fathers decision shows she is very demanding and stands up for her self.

Daddy- emotion

This poem displays Sylvia’s emotions and feelings towards her Father. She feels frustrated and there is a lack of communication between Father and daughter. She has been hurt, betrayed, and may not have be cared for as a child. For all we know he may have abused her. ‘Sorry I had to kill you.’ This poem has German backgrounds, note the use of the term ‘swastika’ instead of God and the reference to the Jews ‘Chaffing me of like a Jew.’ In Nazi Germany, Germans hated Jews. This poem shows the feelings between families that suffer from lack of interaction and selfishness and do not have good foundations. I believe Sylvia Plath is showing her emotions in this through the possible hatred in her farther, referring to him as a vampire who has now be stacked.

Daddy

In the poem Daddy emotion is showed strongly in this as when you first look at it looks like it is about a girl who has lost her dad and wants him back. This is showed when she tries to join him or in other words die so she can see him. Also she marries someone who looks like her dad to try and replace him to remember him. Emotion is also shown by repetition for example ‘you do not do, you do not do.’ This suggests she is saying to someone you are not enough compered.
